TomTom Telematics completely changes fleet operations for local business

The Company

AAA Trusses & Windows (AAA) designs and manufactures prefabricated roof trusses, wall frames, posi struts and a wide range of aluminium window joinery. Established in 1986, AAA has six sites in Melbourne’s South East suburbs from which it designs and supplies product and
installation services to owner builders and industry giants throughout Victoria.
To ensure the safe and timely delivery to building sites around metropolitan Melbourne and surrounding regions, AAA provides and manages its own fleet of vehicles, including 13 prime movers, trade trucks
and company vehicles.

The Challenge

When it comes to construction projects, it’s vital everything runs on time and any issues are dealt with in a timely manner. As soon as there are any delays, the chance of a budget blowout increases. Priding itself on customer service and being an extension of a client’s’ operations, it is critical for AAA to provide its customers with accurate ETAs, as well as be able to adjust quickly to clients’ changing needs. If a client has an issue onsite, knowing where materials are on the road significantly improves the customer experience, as trucks can be redeployed to meet their needs.
However, with no way of knowing where their trucks are, it was impossible for AAA to provide accurate ETAs. Instead, the office would have to be constantly calling its drivers to find out where they are. If any issues emerged, it would literally be a case of ringing around to find out which driver would be available to help. Not only was this consuming a lot of the back office’s time, it was also frustrating for drivers, who would have to regularly answer calls safely, whilst on the road.

The Solution

AAA needed a solution that would enable it to have full visibility of its fleet, in a simple and intuitive user platform. The company turned to TomTom Telematics and its Webfleet fleet management solution. AAA installed TomTom LINK 530 across its fleet of 19 vehicles, giving the office full visibility of its fleet through Webfleet’s easy-to-use interface. Through Webfleet, AAA was able to receive status, location and ETA
information, enabling the office to keep its customers updated whilst improving the efficiency of its scheduling. If an issue was to occur onsite, Webfleet enables AAA to identify the best placed driver to attend the job. This isn’t necessarily the closest driver but the one with the right load or will be there in the quickest amount of time, based on traffic and other road variables. “TomTom Telematics has completely changed our fleet operations. It has enabled us to provide clients with accurate ETAs, as well as respond dynamically to their needs, “ said Andrew Clements at AAA Trusses and Windows. “Where the solution has really come into its own is in the scheduling. Knowing exactly where all our vehicles are at all times has vastly improved our scheduling capabilities, saving us about 35 to 40 phone calls a week.” Since Webfleet has been installed, AAA has managed to reduce admin time of managing its fleet by 15 to 20 per cent. With Webfleet, AAA is always connected to its team on the road, helping to improve the efficiency and performance of its fleet, as well as the overall customer experience.
