Volkswagen Caddy driver gains TomTom WORK “Safe Driving Award”

London – October 8, 2009: The TomTom WORK “Safe Driving Award”, run in association with the popular and successful MPG Marathon, has been won by Doug Powell and navigator Trevor Holland driving a Volkswagen Caddy EcoFuel. The van was run on landfill biogas. The inaugural award was instigated by TomTom WORK and Fleet World magazine, the organisers of the Marathon, to introduce and reward safe driving practice and techniques during the two day event.

Every harsh braking and steering movement and speeding exception was monitored by TomTom WORK's award winning LINK 300 and WEBFLEET tracking solution. The severity of each driving event was measured by using a 1 to 5 rating system with the report at the end of the event analysed by the judges determine the winner.

Commenting on the award Doug Powell, who has been involved in every MPG Marathon bar one since its inception in 2000 said, We were delighted to win the award and hope that this helps to prove that smooth, considerate driving brings about improved fuel economy The key term I believe is COST – Concentration, Observation, Space and Time – this is something that I practice in my everyday driving and, together with Trevor's excellent navigation skills, paid dividends in the MPG Marathon enabling us to win the TomTom WORK safety award.

Jeremy Gould, TomTom WORK's Sales Manager said, We congratulate Doug and Trevor on an excellent effort, safe driving as well as driving efficiently is paramount in fleet business, and we very happy to initiate this award promoting both of these important initiatives.

The award was backed by the Driving for Better Business campaign organised by RoadSafe and the award was presented to the winners by Caroline Scurr, the campaign director.
