Fly By Nite brakes new ground with Webfleet's EBPMS technology
London, March 26, 2025 — Webfleet, Bridgestone’s fleet and asset management solution, is simplifying DVSA compliance for Fly By Nite by equipping all its trailers with Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS) tracking – a cost-effective and efficient alternative to traditional laden roller brake tests.
In preparation for this April’s new DVSA requirement for all trailers to undergo quarterly brake tests, the company has invested in the Webfleet Link 350 trailer tracking management system and an integral EBPMS.
One of the UK’s largest entertainment hauliers, Fly By Nite is used by some of the biggest names in the music, entertainment, corporate and exhibition industries.
From transporting Pink and her production team on major European tours to delivering world-class orchestras and their instruments to leading venues, the company runs a fleet of 226 specialist vehicles from its Redditch UK headquarters.
To meet the new legislative demands for loaded brake testing, we worked out that we would have to invest £80k in new weighing and motorised loading equipment - plus take on 2 new employees to continually load and unload our 45ft box trailers to the requisite 65% load
, explained Adam Pettigrew, Head of Workshop, Fly By Nite.
That’s before you add in all the truck downtime and the massive inconvenience and fuel cost of having to bring vehicles back to base.
We can run fleets of up to 60 trailers for 20 weeks on one world tour alone. It quickly became obvious that the traditional route to compliance just wasn’t tenable.
By constantly gathering real-time data from each trailer's braking system, Webfleet’s EBPMS reporting allows Fly by Nite to monitor their trailer brake performance remotely, running load simulated, DVSA accepted tests and reporting on every brake event - and eliminating the need for mandated roller brake tests every 12 weeks.
EBPMS uses a combination of wear, pressure and temperature sensors to monitor vital braking data, with this information then processed to predict maintenance requirements, maximise performance and boost safety measures.
As well as saving us massive amounts of potentially wasted fuel and dead mileage, it also has a positive knock-on effect on our drive to reduce CO2 emissions
, added Pettigrew.
Webfleet is definitely the best product on the market – not only for their EBPMS capability but for our entire fleet.
Our working environment throws up unique challenges compared to other hauliers, but Webfleet were always prepared to tailor their solution to our needs and work in genuine partnership with us.
As well as accurate trailer track and trace capability, Webfleet also provides maintenance and service alerts, along with notifications that flag trailer system faults for repair.
While we support the DVSA’s aim to improve road safety and ensure consistent brake performance, going from one ‘meaningful’ test a year to four obviously adds considerable cost and time pressures onto freight operators
, added Beverley Wise, Regional Director for Webfleet, UKI.
With Webfleet’s EBPMS capability, however, Fly By Nite can always stay one step ahead of the compliance curve.
