Breedon boosts productivity and cuts tachograph management time with Webfleet

London, May 2, 2024 – Construction materials giant Breedon has slashed the amount of time it spends on tachograph administration by 1,300 hours a year – thanks to Webfleet, Bridgestone’s globally trusted fleet management solution.

With 450 HGVs operating across more than 300 sites, the group provides asphalt, ready-mixed concrete and surfacing solutions within the UK and Ireland.

Webfleet’s Tachoshare Plus has helped Breedon re-coup the admin time by facilitating automatic daily remote downloads of both driver and vehicle tachograph data. Drivers and transport managers no longer need to travel to depots to complete vehicle downloads, saving them valuable time and maximising productivity by keeping the trucks on the road.

Truck-specific navigation is also saving time and boosting driver safety.

With Webfleet’s HGV routing, we can set much more accurate routes avoiding low bridges, weight restrictions and narrow lanes, said Sarah Scothern, General Manager, Transport & Logistics at Breedon Group plc. It also means we can give more accurate pricing estimates for delivery jobs.

With MANTIS camera integration on most trucks, the transport team can now access video evidence remotely, immediately after incidents, using the same Webfleet interface.

Far from being a Big Brother intrusion, the in-cab technology means we can support our drivers better, explained Sarah.

With Webfleet and the multi-camera system, we can see the full picture, confirming, for example, that a driver was braking sharply to avoid a car cutting in, rather than driving dangerously.

The company is analysing Webfleet data to identify incidents and event hot spots - and to gain insights into the root cause of problems.

The investment has resulted in a significant insurance premium rebate in recognition of lower anticipated accident rates.

Breedon has also set its sights on improving driver behaviour, leveraging Webfleet’s OptiDrive 360 driver feedback and reporting.

As well as setting challenging KPIs, we’re planning to introduce a driver of the year and most improved driver award, to help keep drivers incentivised to drive more safely and efficiently, said Sarah.

In addition, we’re planning to integrate around 800 owner-drivers into the system, so wherever you work in the business, everyone will be measured against the same benchmark.

Webfleet’s powerful reporting suite will be integral to the company’s aim to achieve the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) Silver accreditation by the end of this year and net zero carbon emissions by 2038.

Webfleet helps Wren Kitchens boost fleet mpg

London, April 18, 2023 — Wren Kitchens has improved its mpg efficiency by nearly eight per cent since installing a fleet management solution combining Webfleet, Bridgestone’s trusted fleet management solution, with Paragon routing and scheduling software.

The Lincolnshire-based retailer now runs Webfleet in 154 trucks delivering kitchen units to customers across the UK, and a further 98 vans servicing the 108 Wren showrooms.

The introduction of a single fleet management platform was a priority for us and Webfleet offered the seamless integration with Paragon that we needed, explained Lee Thompson-Halls, National Fleet Manager at Wren. We can now despatch jobs, confirm ETAs and compare planned versus actual scheduling from the one Webfleet interface.

Accurate fuel consumption data, truck-specific navigation and driver performance insights have led to average fleet fuel economy across vans and trucks increasing from 13 to 14mpg.

Webfleet’s OptiDrive 360, which profiles drivers based on incidents such as harsh braking, sharp cornering or speeding, has also helped the Wren team improve road safety standards, with successful drivers celebrated at the annual Wren driver of the year event.

Our vehicles travel an average of 150 miles a day, so a one per cent mpg improvement quickly adds up to significant bottom line savings, as well as helping us meet our demanding sustainability goals, added Lee.

As many of the vans are used by multiple employees, Webfleet’s Driver ID is proving invaluable in identifying which employees are driving which vehicle - and how much time they spend on the road, on-site or with customers - via individual RFID cards.

To support Wren’s planned transition to electric vans, the company is now using Webfleet’s EV management toolkit to forecast TCO savings by simplifying comparisons between internal combustion vehicle running costs and real-world EV performance. It is also helping them to plan for their charging infrastructure needs by confirming where their vehicles spend most time, their typical mileage and dwell times.

Bowker Transport set to improve driver safety and fuel performance with Webfleet

London, August 26, 2024 - Bowker Transport is set to improve driver safety, reduce fuel use and cut CO₂ emissions, thanks to an integrated Webfleet fleet management and Vision Track camera system, supplied by Daisy Communications across its fleet of 225 HGVs.

One of the UK’s longest-standing logistics operators, the company has leveraged Webfleet’s open API to integrate powerful telematics data with incumbent technology.

Before Webfleet, we had to collate information from three different systems, enthused Mark Brewell, IT Manager at Bowker Transport. Now we can see everything we need to know instantly via the Webfleet dashboard.

The company’s driver app is being integrated with the Pro8475 ruggedised tablet, allowing jobs and instructions to be sent directly to the tablet, while Webfleet’s truck-specific navigation helps drivers to avoid not just traffic, but also low bridges, narrow roads and sharp turns.

OptiDrive 360’s active driver feedback has also proved popular.

Our drivers have described it as a real gamechanger, said Brewell, giving them immediate advice and feedback to help them drive more safely and efficiently.

Webfleet’s powerful insights are being used to confirm the comparative fuel efficiency of different truck brands to check that they are delivering on their performance promises.

A Direct Vision Standard (DVS) 2024-ready, 360-degree, AI-based camera solution from Vision Track has been integrated into the same system, allowing Bowker Transport’s traffic desks to view vehicle data alongside camera footage on the same screen.

If there is a customer issue or an incident, we can view the camera images in seconds. Unlike our previous system, it is automatically uploaded into the cloud, added Brewell.

The investment is an important step in Bowker’s journey towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions goals. The company is running a 12-month trial switching its fleet and forklift trucks at the Droitwich depot to HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) fuel which produces 90% less greenhouse gas emissions than diesel – with no vehicle modifications needed.

The company has also invested in one of the UK’s first fully electric Volvo FE 6 wheel rigid trucks which will operate from its Preston depot.

Webfleet Tachograph Solutions accredited by the DVSA

The DVSA (Driver Vehicle Standards Agency) have accredited the Webfleet Tachograph Manager and Plus driver hours KPI reporting, as part of their earned recognition scheme.

For Fleets who sign up to the voluntary scheme, they are able to easily share compliance performance information with the DVSA (via Tachograph Manager) to show they meet driver and vehicle standards. That way, they are less likely to be stopped for inspections.

As an approved IT supplier, this official accolade shows that Webfleet's solutions are well-designed and support the DVSA’s goal to improve road safety.

Streamline the submission of driver hours data in accordance with DVSA requirements for the earned recognition scheme

Roadside checks can be shortened if the driver can prove to the inspector that their company is accredited with DVSA and reports regularly.
Adherence to scheduled routes is not endangered by random, lengthy inspections. Companies are compelled to engage in self-reflection and take measures to avoid unnecessary audits. Any potential penalties are thereby reduced immediately. It can serve as a quality seal for the accredited transport company.

Do I need some additional software to use this accreditation?

No extra software is required. Only requirement is a customer subscription to Tachograph Manager (Plus).

How do I use this feature?

First you must apply to be part of the DVSA earned recognition scheme. This is done via the DVSA website.
For the application process you will need to submit to the DVSA driver hours KPI reports for the three most recent completed periods. These reports can be generated from within Tachograph Manager (Plus), assuming that you have granted permission for this data to be sent to the DVSA.
Once accreditation is approved via the DVSA they don’t have to do anything further, our solution will take over the Drivers' Hours report submission at the correct time once you have entered an ID and started monitoring.
