Steel stockholder to save more than £250,000 with telematics and route planning solution
London, 28 September 2017
Industrial Metal Services (IMS) is saving more than £250,000 a year by improved vehicle routing and driving behaviour across its 55-strong truck fleet.
The steel stockholder has optimised its operations following the integration of the WEBFLEET fleet management solution from TomTom Telematics and Maxoptra’s route planning and scheduling software. The system was implemented by TomTom Telematics Gold partner, Communicate Better.
The combined solution enables deliveries to be planned dynamically using vehicle location data and estimated times of arrival (ETAs). Routing and scheduling information is sent through WEBFLEET to IMS’s mobile workers via their TomTom PRO 8275 TRUCK driver terminals. More than 400 daily delivery jobs are now are allocated based on quickest arrival times, taking account of traffic information and historic route data.
By keeping businesses updated with more accurate arrival times, and seamlessly adjusting our work schedules as traffic delays or other problems occur, we have dramatically improved our customers’ experience,
said Industrial Metal Services’ Operations Director, Mark Williams.
Furthermore, fewer miles on the road has meant annual savings of more than £191,000, an anticipated reduction in vehicle maintenance costs and an uplift in productivity.
A driver improvement programme underpinned by OptiDrive 360, a key component of WEBFLEET, has also boosted mpg, resulting in further savings for IMS of more than £62,000 a year. OptiDrive 360 scores drivers based on a range of key performance indicators and provides real-time feedback and advice to help them improve their driving performance.
