18 year old coders win first prize at the Allianz Connected Life Hackathon using the TomTom LINK 100 API.

TWO talented 18-year-old coders won first prize at the Connected Life Challenge with an exciting app based on the TomTom Telematics LINK 100.

Milady Capitan and Jessie John, both students studying BTEC Extended Diploma in IT at Barking & Dagenham College, claimed a £7,000 prize for winning the challenge to build a ready-to-use IoT application or connected object designed to become the leading insurance or assistance app of tomorrow.

Their app, Learning Tom, uses driver behaviour data provided by the LINK 100 to help young drivers pass their driving test. It scores the driver based on attributes such as acceleration, cornering, braking and gear-shifting, not only preparing them for their test but also providing evidence their insurer company can use to offer them a lower premium.

You can see the Learning Tom pitch here:

The LINK 100 plugs into the OBD-II port of a vehicle to provide a wide range of driver behaviour and vehicle diagnostics data, connecting with other devices via Bluetooth.
