TomTom WORK Helps Vehicle Fleets Go Green
Concord, MA – April 23, 2010
TomTom WORK, the division of TomTom dedicated to commercial vehicle fleets, today announces new
features to its WEBFLEET vehicle management and communication system designed to help businesses
manage their carbon footprint and reduce their impact on the environment.
The new carbon footprint feature allows businesses to run reports on their vehicles, for the whole fleet, specific groups, or individual vehicles. WEBFLEET automatically calculates carbon emissions from the recorded mileage of each vehicle. Fleet managers can use this intelligence to take more direct steps that reduce the carbon emissions of the fleet.
The Idle Time feature is incorporated on the LINK 300 device, part of the WEBFLEET solution that goes into every vehicle. Idle Time records the time an engine is left running while the vehicle is at a standstill. Fleet managers can see exactly which vehicles have burned unnecessary fuel, and ensure that idling is minimized in the future.
WEBFLEET can also help promote a more eco-friendly driving style by detecting and reporting fast acceleration and harsh braking events that increase fuel consumption and carbon emissions, affect driver safety and increase fleet risk.
These new features make a real difference in the overall carbon output of a fleet, especially when combined with
the overall benefit of reducing the amount of miles driven by smart scheduling, better routing and vehicle management
says Michael Geffroy, Vice President of Sales at TomTom WORK. They are a welcome addition to our connected navigation
solutions for customers who want to operate in a more environmentally friendly way
WEBFLEET enables fleet owners to look after their workforce by reporting on detailed measurements for the overall efficiency, performance and safety of the whole fleet. Current features include:
- Efficient planning,
- Vehicle tracking and consignment tracing in real time,
- Easier compilation of reports on vehicle usage and mileage,
- Fast and effective navigation for drivers, and
- Instant two-way communication.
